Imaginative Prayer, the perfect end to a busy week!

It's lunchtime on a Friday afternoon, it’s been another hectic week in the classroom and you realise that although you were meant to teach Religious Education twice this week, you haven’t managed a lesson at all!

But what can you do now…? The students are exhausted, you haven't got anything planned, and the bell goes in ten minutes! 😱

😮‍💨 Imaginative Prayer involves guiding students through a scriptural meditation. As long as you have the resources at your disposal (a Bible, a guided meditation script and the provided questions to spark discussion) then you are good to go!

I am yet to meet a class who does not enjoy Imaginative Prayer experiences.... yes even on a Friday afternoon! All students need to do is come in, sit down, hear the word of God, then find a comfortable place to rest their bodies and allow your voice to wash over them, their imaginations will do the rest (guided by the Holy Spirit of course!).

One of the greatest benefits of Imaginative Prayer is that the Word of God is doing all of the work for you. Reading the script takes no more effort on your part than the daily morning read-to in Literacy, and as for the circle time discussion, what better way to end the week than students sharing their own personal experiences with one another. I assure you that time spent in dialogue will not only deepen the spiritual experience for students but also strengthen trust amongst peers.

So next time your wracking your brain for what you can do to really engage your students in RE, give imaginative prayer a go.... you might just surprise yourself!
