A Little About Me

I'm Carlie Anderson, an enthusiastic primary school teacher with a deep passion for Religious Education. I became aware of Imaginative Prayer during a Scriptural unit within my Masters of Religious Education Course and had an instant connection with the practice.

 

I began leading Imaginative Prayer experiences within my own classroom and was so astounded by the depth of student responses that I decided to complete my final research paper on the use of Imaginative Prayer in the primary school classroom.

 

Inspired by the findings I am now determined to up-skill classroom Religious Educators so they can feel more confident and competent when engaging their students with the Bible.

Guiding Principles

When writing an imaginative prayer experience it is critical that certain guiding principles are followed. Below are the principles that I follow to ensure the quality of the scripts which I create.

- Passages are read in their entirety, even if only part of the passage is explored within the "imagine" phase.

- Only one biblical author’s work is explored within an imaginative prayer experience (passages are not merged).

- No conversations or events are added to the biblical passage. It is not the role of an educator to add to the written text. As such each meditation script uses only the words of the passage combined with a series of exploratory questions to engage the senses.

- The spoken word of characters is not paraphrased but given in its entirety.

No interpretation of the text is presented. Children are informed of the background to the passages and given time to explore the passage for themselves.  

​​- The Good News Translation is used in the writing of the scripts. This particular translation was chosen because of its understandability for younger readers.
